An Eco-Friendly Kitchen

An Eco-Friendly Kitchen

I always try, where possible, to be as environmentally friendly as I can. Over the years I’ve started making small changes that I can feel good about and that can make an impact.

Always use your dishwasher. If you don’t rinse beforehand and just scrape your plates clean, even on the dishwasher’s heavy cycle you’ll use less water than washing by hand – and have sparkling dishes!

Use plastic containers with lids to store leftovers as opposed to using plastic wrap. Plastic is a huge burden on the planet so if you can re-use plastic as much as possible it can really help – and it’s also cheaper which is a bonus.

Buy one bin with two compartments. One for normal rubbish and the other for recycling. It makes it much more convenient, and ensures that you definitely recycle

Always save any plastic bags you have to use and reuse them as many times as possible. Even the thin ones from the fruit and veg section of the supermarket come in handy! I try to take mine back to the supermarket to reuse them – the trick is remembering to take them with me!

Keep your eye out for products that use less packaging – quite often they are cheaper and every little bit helps to reduce landfill. A good example is cleaning products that come in refill size, without the trigger top.

Create a compost bin in your backyard – kids love to take the compost out and feed it to the worms and it’s great for your garden.
