Braised Lamb Shanks


  • 4
    lamb shanks
  • 2 (300g)
    onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves
    garlic, crushed
  • 2 pkts
  • 1 cup (250mL)
    red wine
  • 1 cup (250mL)
  • 3 tbsp
    tomato paste
  • 1 tsp
    dried thyme
  • 1 can (400g)
    tomatoes in juice
  • freshly ground black pepper

How to Cook

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cooking Time: 180 minutes
  1. Preheat oven to 160°C.

  2. Place lamb shanks, onion and garlic in a casserole dish. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over lamb shanks.

  3. Cover the casserole dish. Cook for 2½ to 3 hours or until the lamb is very tender. Stir once during cooking after about 1 hour.

  4. Season with black pepper before serving. Serve with mash and fresh green vegetables.
