The MAGGI Kitchen Showdown is a national cooking competition for students aged 11-15. It is an annual event, which began in 2010.
In 2015 the format was updated to encourage more students to get cooking in the kitchen. Teams (of 2- 4 students) are encouraged to come up with their very own recipe for a main course meal to be able to serve a family of four (based on 2 adults, 2 children). The requirements for entry have varied slightly over the years, but the objective has stayed the same. The competition seeks to encourage students to learn more about cooking and nutrition, and discover just how much fun cooking nutritious family meals can be.
From the stack of entries received each year, the judges panel narrow it down to 8 winners, which will be featured on the 4.30 TV show over 8 consecutive weeks. From those 8 winners, 3 teams will be selected and flown to Auckland to compete in the grand final, which will also be broadcast on the 4.30 TV show.
The MAGGI Kitchen Showdown will return in 2016, with some exciting new additions to the competition format. Watch this space for more information!
